Claude Fable 5 in ToTheMoon episodes
Claude Fable 5 entered ToTheMoon's conversations in June 2026 as the release on which the hosts test two questions: what the model changes in real work, and what access to it is turning into. The first review held both sides together: the model runs large projects faster and competes with Codex, but usage limits, anti-distillation measures and downgrades when a leak is suspected show the price of progress, with Anthropic shipping a technology to which access is restricted like a critical resource (episode 121).
The first impression was specific: Claude Fable 5 sustains a long chain of actions better and gives up less often where earlier versions suggested switching to Codex (episode 121). A day later the story changed. Fable 5 and Mythos 5 had reached mass use, and then access was closed for everyone; strengthened safeguards had not satisfied the US government, and the hosts called this a new kind of product risk rather than an ordinary bug (episode 122).
In July the model came back, and the assessment grew more guarded: the return fixes the immediate problem, but the shutdown had exposed a dependency risk, since a team could move a project onto the model and lose access without warning (episode 130). Extended access arrived the same week as ChatGPT 5.6 and Grok 4.5, and the hosts reframed the issue: strong models are plentiful; the harder task is knowing which one to open (episode 133). From then on the model appears as a working tool, in the breakdown of sites and CMS assembled with Codex, ChatGPT and Claude (episode 135) and in the discussion of tokens and limits (episode 139).
