Sora in ToTheMoon episodes

On ToTheMoon, Sora travelled from the strongest first impression to a closed project, and the channel followed every stage. The hosts' question shifted with the product: first what video generation would do to the price of media, then whether Sora was a product rather than a showcase, and finally where OpenAI would redirect the freed capacity.

In April 2024 Alexander Volchek said he had been stunned by the Sora presentation, calling the quality magical (episode 003). A week later the conversation turned to economics: a minute of such video would cost tens of dollars, more than Shutterstock, and none of it replaces post-production (episode 004). In December 2024 Sora opened inside the twenty-dollar subscription, and for the first time it resembled a product, though it followed long prompts poorly (episode 036); an ad could be produced in dozens of variants, but the model could not stick to precise requirements (episode 037). The market was already saying Veo was better than Sora (episode 038).

Sora 2 in autumn 2025 was read as an expansion of the platform: a video feed of its own places OpenAI beside TikTok and YouTube and makes deepfakes the company's own responsibility (episode 078), while the model added reasoning about the scene (episode 079). By year's end the hosts observed that Sora had been launched and then left alone (episode 089). In March 2026 OpenAI announced it was shutting the project down, and the hosts concluded that video generation demands resources, moderation and a separate social strategy, and that the freed capacity belongs in everyday software (episode 103).
