Application programming interface

“Application programming interface” is not something ToTheMoon stops to explain; it is a word from the hosts' daily practice, the way they plug models into a CRM, accounting, Telegram and finance services and work out what it costs. In the channel's conversations the concept plays three roles — a way to give a model access to someone else's system, a price tag on compute, and, from 2026, a risk zone where an agent finds a route nobody intended.

In 2024 and 2025 the API is discussed as a boundary models are learning to get around. Episode 030 reads Claude Computer Use exactly that way: the model no longer has to wait for a dedicated API from every service — it retraces the user's path in a browser, which makes the agent more universal but slower and more dangerous, since an error ends in an action rather than text. Episode 043 explains working from screenshots by the fact that not everything has an API and probably never will, and notes that API access to DeepSeek is far cheaper than to OpenAI.

In 2026 the API is both a working tool and a source of questions. In episode 105 an attempt to use a model through the API runs into a KYC requirement. In episode 110 and episode 128 Alexander describes the same move — issue yourself a token and ask the agent to read the whole CRM documentation. Episode 150 examines an agent that, asked to book a gym class, found an unprotected API and deleted other people's bookings: “It discovered that the website could be called directly through its API”, and an available function is not the same as permission.
