Today we will discuss an important topic that arises for business owners when they ask themselves:
- What to do for scaling and growth?
- How to grow x10, x50, x100, x200 in revenue or move to a new space entirely?
- How to start doing what I haven't done before?
This topic is very complex, and in my 20 years of experience in business, management, entrepreneurship, mentoring, and helping thousands of businesses, I have encountered it numerous times.
Whether it was within myself, interacting with other businesses, or while managing "Business Youth," where we went from $20,000 in monthly revenue to $20 million annually in a year. I've faced it when Megaplan was already a leader in task management systems in the Russian-speaking space but needed to jump from 10,000 B2B clients to 120,000.
What is this moment when the owner and their team must scale? How do I understand that I, as a business owner, need to make a big leap now?
I need to focus not on maintaining the business but on achieving incredible scale. This question is relevant for both small entrepreneurs and giants with revenues of $50 million, $70 million, $100 million, or $200 million. What is the step for such growth?
The most important thing that is the owner's point of scale is their inner incredible confidence that it is possible. When a person says to themselves:
I will definitely enter a completely different field and space now. I will do everything possible and impossible, and I will succeed.
On one hand, it's a feeling of euphoria from the fact that scaling will happen. On the other hand, it’s a firm confidence, without such euphoria, that there is a certain set of actions that will lead to this result.
Today we will discuss 6 fundamental points that need to be started to achieve scaling. If a person has an inner state of confidence, calmness, and understanding that incredible points of scale are ahead, then they must do the following simple action: simultaneously begin work in a range of different actions.
Partnerships
- The first thing to start with is working within your partnerships. They are divided into two vectors: partnerships at home, in the family, with your spouse; partnerships in business (those partnerships with one partner or with other company shareholders).
What does it mean to "work on relationships"? It means asking yourself questions:
- Where can I become better in terms of actions and events?
- Where can I put in certain efforts to make my partner feel better?
- Where can I show my calmness, respect, patience, and get rid of expectations regarding my partner?
- Where can I hear my partner's point of view, what goals, tasks, and expectations do they have?
We look at the partnership with the spouse, at the partnership in business.
Working with the Team, Unacceptable Goal, and Current State of the Company
- The next step is to come to your team and try to hear where these employees are, find out their goals and expectations, how they plan the next steps, and what they are doing. Just talk to them.
- The next big action is to set a goal that is ambitious and unacceptable for you. Unacceptable means "I don't just want to grow from $1 million to $10 million in turnover" or "I don't just want to grow from $20,000 in monthly net profit to $100,000 in net profit," but "I want to grow from $20,000 in net profit to $2 million in net profit per month." That is, when the goal is ambitious, crazy.
- Next, we look at what is a certain growth point for the company. We look from the company's point of view, where it is, from the clients' point of view, product, services, pay attention to strategy, goals, and tasks.
Own Therapy and Physical Body
- The next thing to do is to engage in therapy. You need to undergo 10, 20, 30, 40 therapy sessions in two directions: psychotherapy and spiritual therapy – two such completely different vectors. On one hand, dive into psycho-physical, on the other – into your spiritual development.
- An important step that needs to be taken very seriously is to pay attention to your physical body and engage with it. These can be absolutely any activities: from the gym to osteopathy or some physical exercises, practices.
Set of Actions
The set of these actions, points of attention – in relationships with the spouse, with the partner, from the point of view of the ambitious goal, from the point of view of what is happening in the team, with the company, from the point of view of clients, psycho-physical, spiritual therapy, and taking care of your physical body – is the only action you need to take to grow significantly.
This is the event that should happen to scale. And the most important thing is to do it all at once. Success lies in simultaneity: when you do all these actions together, when you develop, the growth and scaling of the business come primarily from within you.
If you have asked yourself questions: how can I scale? how can I grow multiple times? – then you must very clearly do to give such an answer: "Yes, there is a business with different financial indicators, in terms of sales growth, marketing, products, services, various deals, M&A, mergers, acquisitions, anything." But one of the most important stages and sides of this growth is your personal growth as a business owner.
In My Life
There have been situations in my life when I bet exclusively on the business when I wanted scale. Or when I bet exclusively on my partners. I thought that scale would come through partners. Or I bet, thinking that strengthening interaction with clients would lead to results. All this is very good, but it is very difficult to determine what is the most correct step for you right now. How to understand what is the next step you should take?
Simple Action
Here is one good action you can try: write down the situations, specific time, day, place, year or space, what kind of business it was, what partnership it was when I missed the point of scale and when I did not hear this space and time, but could have heard it. Try now, reflect. You will come up with this during and after reading the article (or watching the video on this material). Be sure to write it down in your notes: this will allow you to structure information, focus, ignite your energy, get excited.
Uniqueness and Your Own Next Step
When I discuss individually with someone, I can, of course, bring the person closer as quickly as possible, show them exactly their next step. But all people are unique, businesses are unique, owners are unique, goals are unique, tasks are unique, expectations are unique, families are unique. Events in a large number of actions lead to a completely different result. So, create this eventfulness for yourself after you come to a state of firm confidence that you want incredible scale. And it is important not to miss this moment, the situation, but to take advantage of it. Do it right now, do not postpone. Hear the right moment, understand, and start. This "yes, start" comes from the impulse of your confidence, the core of calmness.
"I am a perfectionist"
There are people who say: "I am a perfectionist" or "it is important for me to perfectly think through every step, action." With such quality and such firm systematics, it is often very difficult to make decisions. You delay and do not understand when to do it. For this, there is a solution to go through everything together, launch the elaboration of everything that concerns your life instantly. When you do this, you will have no opportunity to slow down somewhere. You slow down in one place, in another place you develop exultantly – there will be a completely different event process. And this will just be the flow. This is a very good solution, including for people who want to think through everything perfectly or who do some one-off action.
