Amazon Alexa on ToTheMoon is a home laboratory: Alexander Volchek keeps more than ten speakers in his house, and the hosts use them to check whether a voice assistant has become genuinely useful. The channel's question is simple: does Alexa make a daily task easier, or does it remain an expensive music player.

In 2024 the verdict was harsh. Episode 003 held up a house full of Alexa speakers as proof that without useful scenarios there is no smart environment. In episode 010 the hosts said that ten speakers ended up only playing music because Alexa could not handle a complex exchange, and episode 030 called the assistant, at that moment in time, plain trash. In episode 045 Amazon promised a major Alexa announcement, but the hosts stressed that a habit forms only if the new Alexa is faster and more reliable than the old way of doing the same thing.

The arrival of Alexa Plus did not shift the tone. Episode 057 noted that Amazon itself admitted the accuracy of complex multi-step commands might stay below what a household helper can afford, and that ChatGPT's voice mode sounded more natural. Episode 087 called Alexa slow and often deaf, and episode 091 recounted how, after a model update, the assistant stopped setting an alarm instantly. Episode 094 added a domestic detail: the children are so used to saying "Hey, Alexa" that they call for her in a car that runs Google. In episode 146 (2026) Amazon's speakers were cited as an example of the same trade-off between accuracy and automation seen in other AI projects.
