There are times when a person develops and degrades, and times when they truly develop and grow in scale. Scaling yourself is definitely not about increasing your income. It isn't about acquiring more social contacts. The very fact of setting yourself this task is much more important than any parameters or metrics. You'll feel calmer, stronger, more confident, more firmly grounded, and emotionally healthy. Hello! My name is Alexander Volchek. You're on my channel, where we explore human development and growth: how people can truly grow in scale and truly develop so that their lives are full of color. Since today we're going to talk about genuine growth in scale, it's important to begin by looking at what scaling yourself means to you. Be sure to watch this video to the end. We'll explore what genuine growth in scale is, what it means to truly grow a hundredfold. Most importantly, I'll focus on what you shouldn't do, because a great many actions lead people toward degradation rather than development. Let's begin by looking once again at what scaling yourself actually means. People today pay a great deal of attention to these words: development, growth, how to scale yourself. And of course they associate them with money. Some associate them with the number of children in their family, others with the number of tasks they've completed or projects they've launched.
They've hired more employees: they had thirty, and now they have three hundred. They were earning ten thousand dollars a month and started earning a million dollars. That's what they see as growing in scale. I'm not in any way saying that the examples I've given are exclusively negative, or even negative at all. The point is that when someone sees genuine growth and development solely in terms of changing certain metrics, parameters, and numbers, they can end up in a state where, on the one hand, they feel very bad. On the other hand, reaching certain targets can lead to profound degradation rather than growth. When people hear the word “development,” they're used to assuming that development can only be positive. But we're human beings, and life is constantly moving within us. We can't stop our internal systems, even those of the physical body. We can't stop the blood, the circulation of blood. So a person is in a constant state of development, endless development. There are times when a person develops and degrades, and times when they truly develop and grow in scale. I associate the word “scaling” very strongly with that. And when we arrive at a genuine understanding of what scaling yourself means, it is definitely not about increasing your income.
Scaling yourself isn't about acquiring more social contacts. It's about expanding, increasing, and changing your perception of the space around you. Your perception of your life, the world, cause-and-effect relationships, everything around you. Genuine growth in scale is when you expand your perception of reality, your perception of your own observation, of the observer within you. By the way, a few videos ago I made one about what genuine observation means. Watch it. It will greatly support your progress and, most importantly, point you toward certain actions once you've understood what scaling yourself means. But today's topic is scaling yourself. When we talk about perception, it doesn't simply mean noticing that ten particular events are happening and keeping track of them. For example, we're tracking certain metrics at our company, or our relationships at home, within the family. Or we're checking whether our home is tidy or not—a particular series of events. When I use the word “perception” and talk about perceiving life, it's very important to establish right away that we're setting ourselves the task of perceiving the whole of life. That means perceiving a great variety of events, absolutely any events that happen during the day, and your reactions to those events.
The fact is, suddenly making money, or suddenly closing a contract and earning, say, a hundred thousand dollars when you've never earned that much before, can bring up a negative emotion. Yet seeing a deer in your yard can bring up an emotion that's a thousand times more positive. Just like that. So that we don't get caught up in good emotions or good perception, bad perception, negative emotions, negative perception, a negative state, a degraded state, it's important to understand that we need to perceive absolutely all the events in our lives, dispassionately. When we consider perceiving every event, that's a natural process in anyone's life. And it's a natural process in anyone's life not for one day, not for two days, not for three days, not for five days. It's a natural process for the rest of a person's life. How do we formulate the task itself? We say, “I want to be growing in scale. I want to develop genuinely, truly. And I recognize that I'll grow and develop by expanding my perception, which will continue throughout my life.” In other words, I won't grow in scale through particular actions or by achieving particular goals. I'll grow in scale through perception. Notice that this is a very interesting emphasis, a very interesting and difficult one at the same time.
Because we're used to being sustained by the results of particular actions, and to directing our energy toward finite, specific actions. But I'm telling you that you often don't recognize or understand which actions to take or which goals to set. We're people living in a world that includes freedom: an enormous number of events will happen that you choose in the course of your life, alongside an enormous number of events that are predetermined but unknown to you. Life will flow along its own particular lines and rivers. If we focus not on specific goals and actions that may be unattainable from the outset, but on the fact that my most important task is to expand my perception, that this is what leads me to grow in scale, then that's a task I can definitely fulfill, a task I'm guaranteed to be able to fulfill. Compare that with setting yourself the goal of increasing your income tenfold next month, or living without ever arguing with your spouse, or making sure you have five children and raise them all to be smart, get into a good university, then earn a lot of money, have good families of their own, and be happy.
That's a separate and very complicated matter. Those tasks may be impossible to fulfill from the outset. If you set yourself that kind of task and live as though that alone is what scaling yourself means, you can immediately see that in most cases you'll lose, because you won't accomplish an enormous number of those tasks. What's more, you'll never pay attention to a great many things that happen, things that really are important. You simply won't focus on them, and you'll live through them without awareness. As people say, “I worked my whole life, but spent very little time with my children. My mom or dad died, and I hadn't been talking to them. I could have.” Because at that point you yourself were prioritizing the tasks you'd decided constituted growth in scale. But if you direct your attention to it and say that scaling yourself is a state of perception, and devote time specifically to perception, then within that perception you can't miss any moments. Of course, you won't be one hundred percent aware, because it's impossible to maintain that kind of guaranteed, one hundred percent perception. But we can say unequivocally that you'll have much greater perception of a much greater number of factors, tasks, and currents in life, and much greater observation of your own state.
That will give your life an incredible breadth of experience. It won't be filled with the story that things used to be good but aren't so good now. Or that things used to be good, but I'm afraid they'll be bad in the future. Things used to be bad, and maybe they'll be bad in the future too. Things used to be bad, and I want them to be good in the future. When you're in a state of perception, the very question of bad or good falls away. It goes away. You have a fairly strong sense of solid ground, a sound, genuine assessment of the life unfolding around you. At that point you're able to say to yourself, “Actually, maybe this event isn't important.” Notice how often everyone has experienced situations where they thought something was a very important event, a very important meeting, an absolutely essential meeting. Then time passed, and it turned out that somehow it was no longer important, no longer necessary. It turned out you could have left that action undone. You didn't have to go to that place, didn't have to visit it. You didn't have to read that book. That feeling disappeared. The importance dissolved, went away; the uniqueness went away, because it wasn't real. Very often it's a false feeling, an illusion.
I'm not in any way excluding the fact that…
In any case, I'm not excluding the fact that human beings are made, among other things, to experience a variety of emotions, including emotions connected with the events that happen. So treat them equally in terms of their significance for your growth. Something very bad happened: five people around you died, or you became seriously ill, or you earned an enormous amount of money. Again, earning an enormous amount of money is always a single event. The question is how it unfolded over time, what you felt before it, and what you'll feel afterward. Even if you want to evaluate it, evaluate it over at least a broad span of time: five, ten, fifteen, twenty, thirty years. At least that kind of span, although the actual span is much wider. People look for expanded perception through unnatural things. By unnatural things I mean using the power of various external circumstances. Not to mention unnatural things like starting to take certain substances or attending practices that change your external state. Every person can expand their perception and remain in a state of expanded perception very naturally, genuinely. They can do it themselves, personally, without external factors. Remember that if expanded perception has been produced for you from outside, it can be taken away again from outside, many times over and with tremendous force.
That can mean losing this perception year after year as you go through life, or finding that it has become an unnatural perception in which you see what isn't yours, what is alien and foreign to you. I want to emphasize once again that genuine growth in scale isn't about fulfilling the goals, tasks, and parameters we've become accustomed to through the way society is organized. People have become accustomed to them through that social structure because they don't know the causes and effects operating in the world. Genuine growth in scale is the expansion of your own perception, knowledge, and observation of life, of the events happening to you. Knowing the cause-and-effect relationships behind those events. You can start doing this right now and keep doing it every day, with all the events happening in your life. Make it a task. If you can't make it your life's task, make it a task for a certain period. Don't shut it out; make it a task you pursue alongside the others. The very fact of setting yourself this task is much more important than any parameters or metrics. You'll feel calmer, stronger, more confident, more firmly grounded, and emotionally healthy through genuine human strength. That's what makes a person free rather than a robot. Observe how you react to different information, how you perceive the events that happen to you each day, and how you perceive the other people around you.
In a recent video I explored in great detail the key factor a person needs, the essential feature every person should have in the twenty-first century, the main quality you need in the twenty-first century. Watch that video. Here's the link. Please also tell me in the comments what scaling yourself means to you. What in your life have you considered a genuine state of growth in scale? Can you list thousands of those things? Because if you can list thousands of events, you're definitely in a state of perception that needs to expand further. Perception is infinite and diverse, and there's no limit to it, just as there's no limit to your own development and growth. See you again on my channel. My name is Alexander Volchek. I talk about human growth and personal development.
