Today we'll examine the most important question a business owner faces: what should I do to scale and grow? Not just multiply the business, but grow tenfold, fiftyfold, a hundredfold, two hundredfold, or enter an entirely new space and do things I've never done before. It's a very complex subject. Over twenty years in business, management, entrepreneurship, mentoring, and helping thousands of businesses, I've encountered it countless times: within myself, while helping other businesses, and while managing companies. When I joined Business Molodost to run it, it made $20,000 a month in revenue. A year later, we made $20 million over the year. Or Megaplan, already a leading task management system in the Russian-speaking market, with a base of ten thousand B2B clients. We needed a leap, and we reached a hundred and twenty thousand. What is the moment when an owner and team need to scale? How do I know it's time for a major leap, to focus on achieving that enormous scale rather than maintaining the business as it is or performing standard operational processes?
This question faces both small entrepreneurs with, say, one, two, or three coffee shops, and giants already generating—
generating $50 million, $70 million, $100 million, or $200 million in revenue. What is that step toward growth? The owner's most important starting point for scaling is an incredible inner confidence that it's possible. The state in which you say, “I'm definitely going to enter an entirely different field and space. I'll do everything possible and impossible, and I'll succeed.” On one hand, there's even a certain euphoria that scaling will happen. On the other, there's firm confidence, without that euphoria, that a set of actions will produce the result. Today we'll discuss five to seven fundamental things to start doing to reach that scale. If you have inner confidence, calm, and an understanding that an incredible opportunity for scaling lies ahead, the next simple action is to start working simultaneously across a range of actions. First, begin working on your partnerships.
Those relationships have two directions. First, partnership at home, in the family, with your husband or wife. Second, business partnerships: with one partner or the other shareholders in your company. Simply begin carefully—
working on those relationships. What does that mean? Ask yourself where you could improve your actions or responses to events. Where could you make an effort that would make things better for your partner? Where could you bring calm, respect, and patience, and remove your expectations of them? Where could you hear their perspective: where they are now, their goals, tasks, and expectations? Examine the partnership with your wife and the partnerships in business. Next, spend time with your senior management team. Try to hear where these employees stand, what their goals and expectations are, how they see the next steps, and what they're doing. Spend some time alongside them. Another major action is to set a goal that's ambitious and unacceptable to you. Unacceptable means not simply growing from $1 million to $10 million in revenue, or from $20,000 a month in net profit to $100,000, but from $20,000 in net profit to $2 million a month.
A goal that's crazily ambitious. Next, you absolutely need to examine what could be a growth point for the company. Where does the company stand in terms of clients, products, and services? Pay attention, get involved, look more closely at its strategy, goals, and tasks. Next, begin therapy. You need to complete ten to twelve—
you need ten, twenty, thirty, or forty therapy sessions in two directions: psychotherapy and spiritual therapy. Two completely different directions, one toward psychological and physical work, the other toward spiritual development. Another important step that any owner seeking tenfold or a hundredfold growth, rather than just a few times more, needs to take seriously is caring for their physical body. That can mean any activity, from the gym to osteopathy, physical exercises, or practices. It doesn't matter what feels familiar or unfamiliar, or what circumstances life has brought from outside. This set of actions and areas of attention—your relationship with your wife and business partner, an enormous goal, what's happening within your team and company, clients, psychological and physical therapy, spiritual therapy, and your body—is the single action you need to take to grow many times over.
That's what needs to happen for major growth. Most importantly, do all of it simultaneously. Success lies in doing these actions together, developing across the board, because business growth and scaling come primarily from within you. If you've asked how to scale and grow many times over, you need to give yourself a clear answer: yes, there's a business with its finan—
a business with its various financial indicators, sales growth, marketing, products, services, deals, M&A, mergers and acquisitions, and everything else. But one of the most important aspects of that growth is your personal growth as an owner. I've had times when I wanted scale and placed my bets solely on the business, or solely on my partners, thinking scaling would come through them. Or I thought stronger interaction with clients would produce the result. All of that is good, but it's very hard to identify the best step for you right now. How do you know the next step you personally need to take? One useful action is to write down situations: the specific time, day, place, year, or space, the business or partnership, when I lost or missed a chance to scale, when I failed to hear that place and moment but could have. Try reflecting now. These thoughts will come during and after the video.
Be sure to write in the comments below. It will help you structure the information, focus, and ignite your own energy and enthusiasm. You'll also help others see the right direction, perhaps where they can't yet see or feel it, even though the time has come for a strong result and point of growth. When I speak with someone individually, I can, of course, bring them toward it as quickly as possible and show them their own next step. But every person is unique, and businesses—
every person, business, owner, goal, task, expectation, and family is unique. This abundance of events across many actions leads to a completely different result. Create that abundance of events for yourself after reaching firm confidence, when you're burning with a desire for enormous growth. Don't miss the moment or situation for scaling. Use it now, without postponing. Hear the right day and moment, recognize it, and start. That “yes, start” comes from the impulse of confidence and a core of calm. Some people say, “I'm a perfectionist,” or, “I need to think through every step and action perfectly.” With those qualities and such rigid systematic thinking, decisions are often very difficult. You postpone them or don't know when to act. That's why there's this approach of doing everything together, beginning work on everything concerning your life at once. When you do, you won't have any way to stall somewhere.
If you stall in one area, another develops exuberantly. It creates a completely different flow of events. It's an awesome approach for people who want to think everything through perfectly, and for those who jump around doing isolated, unsystematic actions. We're talking about people moving toward scale who already have something. I'll keep discussing business and scaling on this channel—
business, scaling, human development, personal creative growth, multiplying income, spiritual and emotional states, firm business confidence, systematic thinking, people, relationships, and partners. Subscribe, like, and share your reflection in the comments: what did you hear, and what matters most to you about scaling? Even if you can now see this whole range of events and possible actions, which is the most important and right for you now? Take that action, that step. Here's to scale and growth!
