Tesla comes up on ToTheMoon as a matter of responsibility and scale: who is to blame when a car on Autopilot crashes, and whether a company can be valued on the promise of robotaxis and robots before those systems have proved reliable. The hosts return to Tesla when talking about autonomous driving, electric-car economics, or Elon Musk's web of companies.
In 2024 the discussion centred on Autopilot. A system that can do almost everything but occasionally fails relaxes the driver right up to the moment control must be taken back instantly (episode 005), and the hosts noted that Autopilot is a marketing name for a service, not a statement of capability (episode 005).
